The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Tarmo Peltokoski present Wagner: The Ring – An Orchestral Adventure, Henk de Vlieger's orchestral version of "Der Ring des Nibelungen," on vinyl. The recording presents musical highlights from Wagner's monumental opera cycle, the complete world premiere of which took place 150 years ago in August 1876 in Bayreuth.
De Vlieger has arranged an orchestral suite of around 70 minutes from the four parts – "Das Rheingold," "Die Walküre," "Siegfried" and "Götterdämmerung." The focus is on the musical dramaturgy of the complete work. Defining leitmotifs such as the Rheingold motif, the Ride of the Valkyries or Siegfried's heroic themes are integrated into a cohesive symphonic arc. Wagner's complex orchestration comes to the fore particularly clearly in this version.
Tarmo Peltokoski and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra approach the score with precise dynamics and create a nuanced sound. The result is an interpretation that combines structural clarity with dramatic intensity, bringing out the full sonic range of the work.
