Dion used this album's liner notes to reveal, publicly for the first time, her relationship with manager René Angélil, writing: "René, for so many years I've kept our special dream locked away inside my heart. But now it's too powerful to keep inside." The title track itself, co-written and produced by David Foster, was written directly for Angélil, and the two married the following year. Beyond that story, The Colour of My Love marked Dion's commercial breakthrough into the English-language market, produced primarily by Foster, Ric Wake, Walter Afanasieff, Christopher Neil and Guy Roche, with four tracks written by Diane Warren. The album includes her recordings of "The Power of Love" and "When I Fall in Love," a duet with Clive Griffin, alongside the hit single "Think Twice."
