The adventure of SPANDAU BALLET began at the end of the 1970s in London's club culture. Gary Kemp (guitar), Tony Hadley (vocals), Steve Norman (rhythm guitar, percussion), John Keeble (drums) and Richard Miller (who was later replaced on bass by Gary's brother Martin) still called themselves "The Makers" back then, made electronic dance music and frequented the legendary London underground clubs such as "Billys And The Blitz". After a trip to Berlin, they found their current band name SPANDAU BALLET.
Through numerous appearances in London's best clubs, SPANDAU BALLET became trendsetters of the "New Romantic" movement. However, this soon developed into a band with a major record deal and a handful of brilliant, catchy pop/dance tunes that immediately catapulted them to the top of the charts. They left the small club gigs behind and started playing big stadiums.
When they released "Chant No 1", they were on the verge of their worldwide breakthrough. During their career they had several chart hits, such as "Gold" or "True", which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
"Gold - The Best Of Spandau Ballet" contains the biggest hits of their career.
